Buy or renew a dog licence

Sad looking puppy

Dogs 3 months or older (including service dogs) must have a license, according to the Animal Control Bylaw.

Benefits of having your dog licensed

Thanks in part to the money raised through licensing fees, the City is able to care for lost and stray pets, and to pay for education- and pet-adoption services. With a dog license, you:

  • Have a much better chance of getting your dog returned if it gets lost
  • Avoid the impound fee if the City picks up your lost dog (one "ride home free" per year)
  • Have your dog added to the Emergency Pet Registry, so emergency responders will know to look for it in the event of a disaster
  • Avoid getting an "unlicensed dog" ticket ($250 for each infraction)

Order or renew your dog licence

The fee is $39.00, with no HST charged. Dog licences are valid for one year. When you renew, do so on time to avoid a $10.00 late penalty.
