Water main flushing program
To maintain good water quality, the City of Vancouver flushes sediment and mineral build-up from the water main system.
This is done by adjusting the valves in the water system, and opening fire hydrants to allow large quantities of water to flow through the pipes.
How flushing affects your water
NOTE: Your water supply will not be shut off during the water main flushing program.
During water main flushing, your water may become cloudy. Cloudy water is not a health concern - clear your water by running cold water taps for 10 to 20 minutes after our crews have finished flushing.
You may also experience low water pressure or no water pressure during flushing.
If you still have low water pressure or no water at the end of the day, call 3-1-1.
When will the water mains be flushed in my neighbourhood?
Residents will be notified of water main flushing after it is scheduled.
The information will be posted on this website. As well, public notices are made through popular neighbourhood newspapers for home owners, and hand-delivered notices are sent to businesses and apartment dwellers.
