Fields, courts, and diamonds

Fields in Vancouver

Enjoy your favourite sport on one of Vancouver's many outdoor facilities. The city has a total of 153 playing fields ranging from non-regulation size or gravel fields to regulation size grass fields and artificial turf.

Except for artificial turf fields, all of the Park Board's fields, courts, diamonds and outdoor facilities are available for casual use on a first-come, first-serve basis when they are not closed for maintenance or in use by someone who has a permit. You must have a permit to use artificial turf fields.

When are a reservation and permit required

You are required to reserve a field, court, or diamond, then get a permit to use it, under the following circumstances:

  • You want to be certain that you can use the field or facility at the time and date you need it (first-come, first-serve is too uncertain for your needs).
  • You intend to use Park Board fields or facilities regularly for your league’s practices and games.
  • You are holding a tournament in a field or facility
  • You want to use an artificial turf field

Scheduling priority

Priority for field and outdoor facility bookings is given to historical permit holders (leagues and teams that have previously booked facilities). Most of these permit holders are leagues that the public can join. Many of them are affiliated with Sport BC.

Find information about these leagues and teams on appropriate field, court, and diamond activity pages, or visit Sport BC's website.

How to reserve fields, courts, or diamonds

Take the following steps to reserve a field:

  1. Fill out an outdoor facility reservation request form.
(The Park Board will contact you for payment and, if necessary, for your non-profit number and proof of insurance).
  2. If you reserved more than 4 hours or if you reserved multiple dates, provide proof of insurance, including the 3 co-insureds, by fax or email.
  3. Pay the reservation fee.

Once your reservation, payment, and insurance is accepted, you will receive a permit. Read and review all the disclaimers listed on your permit.

How to reserve volleyball courts for league play

Permit approval for all events is based on the demand for the space, the impact on neighbours, park amenities (such as off-street parking), and the availability of washrooms facilities.

Take the following steps to reserve a volleyball court for your league practice or tournament:

  1. Read about the restrictions for volleyball tournaments
  2. Find a facility
  3. Fill out an outdoor facility reservation request form.

Once your reservation is approved, you have provided proof of insurance (if insurance is necessary), and your payment is received. Read and review all the disclaimers listed on your permit.

Insurance

Insurance is required for multiple reservations or reservations of longer than four hours.
