Greater Vancouver Integrated Road Safety Unit (IRSU)
The Integrated Road Safety Units in B.C. are comprised of both RCMP and municipal police officers. They are dedicated, mobile enforcement units that work closely with other road safety partners to tackle the most serious traffic issues in their particular areas through strategic enforcement, education and presence.
Their priorities include aggressive driving, such as speeding, street racing and intersection violations, as well as seatbelt enforcement, impaired driving and commercial vehicle checks.
The mandate of the Greater Vancouver Integrated Road Safety Unit is to reduce the number of people that are seriously injured and killed as a result of motor vehicle accidents in the Lower Mainland District by 30% by the year 2010.
