The men and women of the Vancouver Police Department are committed and dedicated to protecting and serving the citizens of Vancouver. VPD officers are often recognized for their outstanding achievements. They are committed to making Vancouver a safer city by providing service to its citizens through integrity, professionalism, accountability and respect (IPAR).

Compliments

If you have had a positive experience with a member of the Vancouver Police Department or have recently observed a member of the Vancouver Police Department who you feel is worthy of a compliment, we would like to hear from you. We are extremely proud of our members and your comments are greatly appreciated.

All compliments are sent to the officer’s supervisor, the officer and the human resources office.

Complaints

• If You Have a Complaint (PDF)

Anyone who has concerns about the actions or conduct of a police officer or the service provided by or the policies of the Vancouver Police Department may file a complaint.

The Professional Standards Section will discuss your concerns by phone or in person and welcomes the opportunity to review these concerns with you and to address them with the officers. Your concern may be resolved without a formal investigation through the intervention of the officer’s supervisor or a Professional Standards Section Sergeant.

All complaints are reviewed and documented. If a formal investigation is required, the investigation process will be explained by a Professional Standards sergeant who will assist you in filling out a Complaint Form (PDF).

Filing a Complaint for Formal Investigation

For a complaint to be investigated, it must be submitted in writing on a Complaint Form(PDF) supplied by B.C.'s Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner.

This form is also available at VPD Public Service Counters where staff will assist in filling out the form.

Submitting the Form

The form can be submitted by mail, fax, or delivered in person to the police department involved or to the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner.
