Replacing your parking permit decal

Replace your parking permit decal if you:

  • Change your vehicle, licence plate, or residential address
  • Lose your decal after receiving it in the mail
  • Replace your damaged vehicle that was written off
  • Replace your stolen vehicle or decal
  • Replace your windshield
  • Replace your peeling or damaged decal
  • Use a courtesy vehicle while your own is getting fixed

 Always make sure the licence plate number on your decal matches your vehicle to avoid a parking ticket. Parking permits are non-transferable and linked to your:

  1. Licence plate
  2. Vehicle make and model
  3. Residential address in the permit zone

Replacement decals are mailed to your residential address within the permit zone. 

How to replace your decal

Find your situation below to get instructions. 

  1. Update your ICBC vehicle registration in person at an Autoplan broker.
  2. Apply for a new parking permit.
  3. Get a partial refund for the days left on your old parking permit. Bring your old permit decal in person to our parking permit offices
  1. Buy a new permit in person.
  2. Stick the decal on your vehicle immediately using the directions below. 
  1. Apply for a new parking permit.
  2. Get a partial refund for the days left on your old parking permit. Bring the ICBC paperwork showing your old vehicle was a write-off to our parking permit offices
  1. Apply for a new parking permit.
  2. Get a partial refund for the days left on your old parking permit. Bring the police case file number for the theft to our parking permit offices
  1. Apply for a new parking permit.
  2. Get a partial refund for the days left on your old parking permit. Bring the parking decal from your old windshield or a receipt from the windshield replacement company to our parking permit offices
  1. Get a free replacement decal at our parking permit offices when you bring:
    • Your old parking permit decal
    • Your valid ICBC vehicle registration for the licence plate listed for your parking permit 
  1. Get a free temporary parking permit dashcard at our parking permit offices when you bring:
    • Vehicle registration showing that the vehicle you're using temporarily is a courtesy car
    • Your valid ICBC vehicle registration for the licence plate listed for your parking permit
    • Two pieces of ID that show your address is in the permit zone, with one item recently dated. For example:
      • Canada Post change of address form
      • Non-personal mail (a phone, cable, or hydro bill, or a credit card statement)
      • Printed electronic bill or statement
      • Rental agreement

How to attach your decal

Peel off the liner and stick the decal in the following place:

  • Cars: on the inside, lower-left corner of the driver's side windshield
  • Motorcycle: on the left, front fork
  • Scooter: under the front of the seat, on the seat support

Your vehicle may be ticketed and towed if you stick your decal on with any other method, such as tape or plastic.

Do not give your decal to another driver. They are non-transferrable.

Uninsured vehicles

Residential parking permits are not valid, nor are they issued, on uninsured vehicles or vehicles with off-street storage insurance. Vehicles without proper insurance are prohibited under the BC Motor Vehicles Act from parking on the street or lanes.
