Get a noise by-law exception permit

New permit and service fees in effect January 1, 2024

Due to service levels and holiday hours, applications received in December may be:

  • Processed in the new year
  • Subject to 2024 fees

Submit your completed application as soon as possible to be eligible for processing in 2023.

A noise by-law exception permit allows construction projects (or the set-up of special events) to proceed outside of normal working days or hours under certain circumstances.

Report construction noise

When construction-related noise is permitted

Construction-related noise is permitted during the following hours:

Day On private property On city streets, lanes, and boulevards
Monday to Friday 7:30am - 8pm 7am - 8pm
Saturday 10am - 8pm 7am - 8pm
Sunday or holiday (day of) No construction-related noise permitted 10am - 8pm

 Outside of these hours, construction noise is only allowed with a noise by-law exception permit.

Steps to getting a noise by-law exception permit

 We recommend that you apply for your permit as early as possible and at least three weeks in advance of your requested exemption date.
