Basic eligibility
You may quality for this grant if:
- You represent a not-for-profit organization in existence for more than one year
- You are planning a not-for-profit sporting event that will take place in Vancouver

Grant types
This program includes three funding options. Event organizers can apply for only one grant that is best suited to their event needs and the nature of the event.
Information icon Annual sport event grants will not be awarded in 2023. Apply as a local or regional sport event or new sport initiative.
Local or regional sport tournament
- Community-based events that have a small operating budget
- Sanctioned provincial or regional championships
- Funds a maximum of 30% of the total gross operating budget (funding will not normally exceed $10,000)
- Grant covers operating costs only; it cannot be used for capital projects, prize money, to advance a profit venture, or to advance the activities of the host organization
New sport event initiative
- New ideas and first time projects that further sport hosting objectives including volunteer development, community engagement, and sport development.
- Should serve the mission and objectives of the Vancouver Sport Strategy

- Funds a maximum of 50% of the total gross operating budget (funding will not normally exceed $5000)
Annual sport event
- Recurring annual community sport events
- Sport events that reach, encourage, and draw community-wide participation
- Annual grant will not exceed 30% of the total gross operating budget in a given year
- Up to three years funding – funding will not normally exceed $15,000 over three years ($5,000 per year)
- After a three-year period, the organization must re-apply for funding support
- Grant covers operating costs only; it cannot be used for capital projects, prize money, to advance a profit venture, or to advance the activities of the host organization
